Singer Jung Joon Young, convicted in sex video scandal, released from prison

After completing his sentence, Jung Joon Young, the singer who was found guilty of gang rape and distribution of sexually suggestive material, was released from Mokpo Prison in Jeollanam-do on March 19, leaving the facility at 5:05 am one day early than its scheduled release date of March 20 KST.

Jung Joon Young, who was rehabilitated, emerged from confinement wearing only a black mask and hat, with his face concealed from the public eye.

The arrest and charge of Jung Joon Young and former FT Island singer Choi Jong Hoon for the alleged gang rape of women in Hongcheon, Gangwon-do, and Daegu were announced in March 2019.

In addition, Jung Joon Young was charged with disseminating unlawful sexual content featuring women in a KakaoTalk group discussion that featured various celebrities, including Seungri. He was sentenced to five years in prison by the Supreme Court in September 2020. The prosecution’s request for probation was dismissed by him, but he was exempt from disclosing personal information and wearing an electronic anklet.

In the second trial, Jung Joon Young expressed remorse during his closing remarks, acknowledging his immoral and irresponsible conduct towards the victims. “I will spend the rest of my life reflecting on my past actions,” he said.
