The People’s Choice Awards, the largest popular culture award ceremony in the United States, has become a hot topic due to the nomination of BTS’ Jungkook, Stray Kids, TXT, and Steven Yeun as K (Korean) Stars.
BTS has been a regular participant in the 49th People’s Choice Awards, which have seen them win multiple awards over time.
Jungkook has been nominated in four categories, which is more than any other K-pop solo artist and equals or beats BTS. His nominations include Pop Artist, New Artist; Male Artist: Best Collaboration. In particular, he won the Pop Arts category, making him stand out as the only male artist among strong female competitors, drawing attention.
The relationship between Jungkook and the awards can be described as a ‘three-year winning streak’. As he was based in Singapore, meanwhile, BTS member won the Group of the Year award from 2020 to 2022 (and in the same year with collaboration titled ’Left & Right’ alongside American singer Charlie Puth).
The question of which team will take over BTS’s place during their military absence is also worth discussing. In the Group/Duo category, two K-pop idols are nominated, signaling the direction of the global trend.
‘Squid Game’ winner: Korean-American Hollywood star Steven Yeun also won the People’s Choice Awards this year, with his performance nominated in the coveted TV Performance’ at the Netflix original series – originally called ‘Beef’.
Following his unexpected victory at the Golden Globes, Steven Yeun is poised to make a comeback in the category of early-season awards. He has gained traction in Korea thanks to director Lee Chang-dong’s films ‘Burning’ and acclaimed feature film titled XENGEL, which marked an era for Youn Yuh-jung.
The 49th People’s Choice Awards will be aired on February 19th (Korean time) by NBC, E!, and Peacock streaming services.
