BTS V’s (Kim Taehyung) ‘Layover’ surpasses NewJeans’ ‘Get Up’ as the fastest K-pop album of 2023 to hit 500 Million streams on Spotify

Kim Taehyung, also known as V of BTS, has achieved a significant milestone in terms of reaching 500 million streams on Spotify, the music streaming platform.

With a mere 33 days since the album’s release, ‘Layover’ became the swiftest K-pop solo act to achieve over 500 million streams on Spotify.

Furthermore, ‘Layover’ has become the swiftest album released this year by a K-pop group, outpacing NewJeans’ 2nd EP.

Taehyung’s ‘Layover’ was released on September 8th and showcases her artistic sensibility, leading to some remarkable records, including the first solo K-pop album to sell over 2 million copies and reach 100 million streams on Spotify in its debut week.

For the first time in its history, all tracks from the album were featured on Spotify’s global weekly chart.

The British music publication NME praised the album for its ability to blend traditional music with contemporary sounds and Taehyung’s signature vocal style, creating a modern sophistication.

The album’s lack of conformity to popular music trends was pointed out by NME, who also noted that Taehyung made artistic choices instead of commercial success.
